Knowledge is power, and magic, above all, has always ruled. When those in control learned of its abilities, they horded it for themselves, gatekeeping its beauty from others. They keep it locked behind paywalls in universities and in leather spellbooks few can afford. To the magic dealers and the gatekeepers, the twin fists of capitalism, we say a simple Fuck You.

Magic should flow, be available to all, and, most importantly, never be held solely in the hands of  the oppressors. So we make magic how we can – cheap zines, printed at home, a Staples, or your public library.

We call them Tomes instead of spellbooks, Zines of power and resistance. We pass them around, trade ‘em, print ‘em ourselves, and fold ‘em too. Then we cast ‘em, one time use, glorious cheap paper and ink burning like a bright firework of resistance to those that would deny the less well off the same arcane spells they enjoy.

Arm the proletariat, afterall, right?

Welcome to DIY Magic Tomes, a Mosaic Strict for the Tiny Library Mosaic game jam (Modern Fantasy) Game Jam. This fragment is filled with punk ass kids making zines from cheap library print outs that have magical sigils or runes or some shit that make magic accessible to all, not just the academic and the rich. Slot this bad boy into whatever Modern Fantasy setting you're working with, create cheap and odd spells, hell, even go ahead and make actual pocketmod zines for these. That'd be really cool.
